Installing cement board is essential in a lot of home remodeling and construction work. Cement board installation can seem like a complex activity but if you

If you are attempting to install cement boarding on your own here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. The first thing you will want to do is gather your supplies. You will need a cement board backer, cement board screws, and safety glasses. There are a variety of brands of cement board backer, so you will want to try to find what works best for you. You will also need some fiberglass seam tape, a cordless drill, and thin set mortar. Keeping optional items such as a utility knife on hand is always a good idea in case you run into any snags during the cement board installation process.
2. You will want to do this
with a friend or assistance if at all possible. Keep in mind that cement board backers can be heavy and have sharp edges so be cautious when handling them.
3. Cutting cement board can be a messy process, so make sure you
wear safety glasses. (It is commonly cut with a skill saw, or a utility knife on the opposite side and then snapped off.)
4. Next you will want to
apply the thin set mortar on the surface you will be doing your cement board installation. Be sure to comb it with your notched trowel.
5. Lay your cement board ¼” to 1/8” apart and use a cordless drill to
screw them down (about every 8 inches.) Be sure the screw heads are below the surface and not protruding in order to facilitate smoothly laying down tile.
6. The last step is
covering all of your seems with fiberglass seem tape, smoothing it with mortar and letting it dry.
