Cement House Siding

Cement house siding is a popular type of siding used in the southern portion of the United States, where hurricanes are a frequent occurrence, because cement house siding is probably one of the most reliable times of materials in which to construct a house under hurricane safety codes. Cement house siding is also used in states that experience major winds and other types of extreme weather conditions such as Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

This type of siding is used on premises' walls and consists of concrete with cement as its base ingredient. Stucco and cinder blocks are also considered cement siding.

Cement siding is not appropriate for three types of locations:

  1. The front porch
  2. The roof edge
  3. The rear deck
Cement siding is usually installed close to these structures but the cement siding installation guide says there should be at least a two-inch space between the vertical, horizontal and sloped surfaces, and also each of the siding bottoms.

Fiber Cement House Siding

This type of cement siding is one of the most popular types of application and offers than most of the siding products in its same class. It can keep its paint in tack for several years as the material is considered paint friendly. When compared to wood siding, cement house siding is cheaper to maintain and easier to handle. It is also manufactured with cellulosic, cement, and sand fibers. This type of siding is best used in garages, in the additions and extensions of the home or for replacement of old structures.

Some characteristics of the siding include:

  1.   Comes very close to emulating natural wood grain
  2.   Very durable
  3.   Installs similar to wood siding
  4.   It cuts similar to wood siding
  5.   Comes pre-finished or primed
  6.   Not subject to insect damage or rotting
  7.   Has an average 50 year warranty with major manufacturers
  8.   Practically maintenance free
  9.   Cost is moderate-high
