The best type of roofing for my Westchester NY, house.

The best type of roofing for my Westchester NY, house.
There are two basic decisions you need to make when choosing a roof for your Westchester, NY house--what pitch will the roof be and what material will the roof be made from? Deciding which you want depends on your personal preference, budget, and level of involvement with care and upkeep.

Pitch of the roof:
In choosing the pitch of the roof, most homeowners do not go with flat roofs (indeed, many are not allowed by residential ordinances), so what you are probably really looking at is a low, medium or high pitch. For do-it-yourselfer's who plan to spend a lot of time on their roof cleaning gutters, installing satellite dishes or doing other maintenance, a low pitched roof is the way to go because it is the easiest and safest to walk on. The high pitched roof is more eye-catching, but it is very dangerous to walk on--you would want all roof work done by a professional with that one. The medium pitch roof is, of course, somewhere between the other two types and it is by far the most popular pitch among homeowners.

Materials for the roof:
For material, your choices for a pitched roof are basically shingles, tile, metal or solar. The tile and solar roofs are mainly for warmer climates that get a lot of sun and no snow snow or ice, but if you can get them, the solar roofs are nice because of their environmental and energy-saving benefits. Metal roofs are kind of an acquired taste. There is a lot of noise associated with metal roofs during rain storms and they are expensive to purchase and repair, but they need less maintenance than any other type of roof and generally last longer. Shingled roofs are the most common and usually the cheapest type, and they are usually available in a variety of colors.

Choosing a roof is a personal decision and a homeowner should put a lot of thought into it--not just about the initial cost and the appearance, but about what their future involvement with the roof will be. There are plenty of good options out there and a homeowner is sure to find the right combination of pitch and material for their particular situation.

Testimonials

We would like to take this opportunity to " THANK YOU" for doing an excellent job on my mothers roof in White Plains, NY.  Five years ago your company proved themselves when you installed a new roof, windows, door and siding. I will say I was a little nervous about giving this job to a Westchester company. Our summer house is in Fairfield, CT, we worried that your crew would have problems traveling one hour to the job and one hour back; however this was never an issue.
Your crew was excellent on both houses and the little extras that we needed where never a problem. The siding is still holding the color and the house looks as good as the day it was finished. We would highly recommend Prime Home Improvements for ANY job a home owner may need.

A million thanks for a job well done. I wish I had the dollars to express my appreciation for the job your team did on my roof, the manner in which your team presented and planned the new roof, not to mention the cost was truly a blessing. Stay well.

I was pleasantly surprised by the rapid response and attention given to our small job. My past experience with repair companies was if the job was small you would be ignored for weeks. Prime Home Improvements immediately gave as an appointment; unfortunately nothing could be done because of the rain. The following day they showed up very early and took advantage of the dry morning to do the job. They worked quickly and well . The proof was that very later in the afternoon we had a terrible storm and roof has not leaked again.
