What you need to know when fixing double hung windows.
Are you looking to fix your double hung windows in the Fairfield County, CT and Northern New Jersey area? A broken double hung window can be a very simple fix as long as you know what you are looking for and can maneuver the pieces out. Depending upon the problem, it can be a DIY project, even for the inexperienced. You must understand how the window works and what the individual pieces are called, which we will walk you through. In addition, you should always know when fixing double hung windows is out of your league and call for professional like Prime Home Improvements to help so as not to damage the window further. This should only be the case if you need to replace a broken locking terminal or re-string the pulley mechanism. As for anything else, you can do it in a matter of minutes.

What to do?

Look at the damage. Most of the time, because of the extreme weather conditions in the Fairfield County, CT and Northern New Jersey areas the window sash is the item in need of repair when fixing double hung windows. The sash is the horizontal cord that is at the bottom of each window. These are attached to a weight in the window frame and can get stuck.

Remove the window sash off of the vinyl track. Use caution when pulling it from the jamb liner by keeping the sash low and level. Lube the cord with paraffin wax and then replace. This may have fixed the double hung windows. If not, take a look at the cartridge. This is done by removing the foam cap at the tip of the jamb liner. Release the S-clip and then proceed to slide out the balance cartridge.

If it is damaged, you will need to replace it, which can be purchased from a home improvement store.

Fixing double hung windows can be a bit of trial and error to see where the problem is. As long as you can diagnose the problem, then fixing the windows can be very easy. Make sure you always keep the windows from going up or down as you work on them. If one is working and the other is not, compare components to make it easier to see where the problem is. Should all else fail, then call out a professional like Prime Home Improvements and know that you made a solid attempt.

We would like to take this opportunity to " THANK YOU" for doing an excellent job on my mothers roof in White Plains, NY.  Five years ago your company proved themselves when you installed a new roof, windows, door and siding. I will say I was a little nervous about giving this job to a Westchester company. Our summer house is in Fairfield, CT, we worried that your crew would have problems traveling one hour to the job and one hour back; however this was never an issue.
Your crew was excellent on both houses and the little extras that we needed where never a problem. The siding is still holding the color and the house looks as good as the day it was finished. We would highly recommend Prime Home Improvements for ANY job a home owner may need.

A million thanks for a job well done. I wish I had the dollars to express my appreciation for the job your team did on my roof, the manner in which your team presented and planned the new roof, not to mention the cost was truly a blessing. Stay well.

I was pleasantly surprised by the rapid response and attention given to our small job. My past experience with repair companies was if the job was small you would be ignored for weeks. Prime Home Improvements immediately gave as an appointment; unfortunately nothing could be done because of the rain. The following day they showed up very early and took advantage of the dry morning to do the job. They worked quickly and well . The proof was that very later in the afternoon we had a terrible storm and roof has not leaked again.
